Misoya Ramen Santa Clara, CA
Introduction
It was a Friday night after a week of state testing. I wanted something that I love. That something was ramen, my favorite noodle soup dish. There are plenty of ramen places in Santa Clara, but I decided we should go to Misoya, which specializes in miso based soup.
Food Review
Takoyaki: Takoyaki is an octopus ball fried in flour. The takoyaki was visuallly appealing, and tasted the same way. The octopus was tender and soft, and the crust gave a crunch to the dish. It was so easily chewed that it a toddler could eat it with no problem. The inside was warm, like I bit into a freshly cooked piece of steak. The two sauces, the mayo and hoison sauce, complimented each other very well and packed a punch of flavor.
Hokkaido Style Cha-Shu Ramen:
Misoya gives the choices of different ramen from different regions. There is Hokkaido style, Kyoto style, and Nagoya style. These are all different cities. I chose Hokkaido style since the menu said it was suppose to be more fruity. The Cha-Shu or stewed pork was very tender. I almost was able to break it apart with my chopsticks. It was juicy and smoky. The ramen noodles had a lot of flavor from the broth. They were also easily swallowed. I barely needed to chew them. The veggies also soaked up the broth very well. Because of that, they had a lot of flavor. And finally, the broth was amazing. There was a lot of unami flavor in the both, and the miso was completely dissolved. The broth was salty, but not too salty. That is what I think ramen broth should be like.
After a long week of state testing, I was pleased with my meal. The place met the standards I hold for ramen, and is definitely worth going back. If you are ever in Santa Clara, I'd recommend going to Misoya.
