Chuy's Tex Mex Austin, TX

My Experience

Chuy's is a famous Tex-Mex restaurant that is located in Austin, Texas. Austin is known for Tex-Mex food, especially enchiladas. Chuy's is one of the most famous Tex-Mex restaurants in Austin. Back to the restaurant, the inside of Chuy's looked kitschy. It had a lot of collected junk on the inside. For example, hubcaps on the ceiling. There was plenty of pictures, with no shortage of color. There were orange, blue, and even more colors. With burritos, tacos, and enchiladas, there was no shortage of food choices.

Enchiladas, burritos, tacos... it was so hard to choose what I wanted to eat. I knew Austin was famous for enchiladas, but the tacos and flautas also looked delicious. What was I going to do? Luckily, there were combo plates. There were combos with basically everything! There were so many options. The final decision I made was the Comida Deluxe, a combo with everything from tacos to enchiladas and queso chips. The only problem: the portions. "That is a pretty big plate, you sure you want it?" the waiter asked me. However, I knew I wanted to taste as much of Chuy's as possible.

Food Review

Queso Chip: A queso chip is a big chip covered in queso cheese sauce. I was looking for the crunch of the chip with the spicy flavor and gooey texture from the queso. That is what I got. The chip was crunchy, but with soft air bubbles. The flavor of the cheesy queso was also there. There was really only one flavor, however. The queso was only spicy.

Beef Sirloin Tacos: Tacos are one of my all time favorites. To me, they are versatile, and you could do almost anything with them. The taco was packed with sirloin, cabbage, guacamole, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. The sirloin was tender, warm, and flavorful. The flavor was on point and strong. It had a kick to it, like it was seasoned very well. Paired with the crunchy cabbage and the sour cream, the taco was glorious.

Cheese Tex-Mex Enchiladas: Austin is known for enchiladas, so I couldn't help but eat them. The enchilada was filled with chicken and cheddar cheese, and topped with a tomatillo sauce. The chicken was complimented well by the cheese. The cheese added a soft texture to the chicken. The tomatillo sauce added more flavor to the enchilada. It gave a sweet kick to the enchilada. However, the tortilla was the star of the dish. Everything else was a condiment. The tortilla was a soft, but not chewy. The tortilla wasn't dry, like a lot of tortillas. However, the tortilla was not super moist either. It was perfect the way it is.

Conclusion

Chuy's supplied great food with their own unique style. It was a great experience seeing a lot of what Chuy's food is about. If you are in Austin and are looking for Tex-Mex, Chuy's is the great place to go. I'd recommend the beef sirloin tacos as well as any enchilada.
